A Wildlife Photography Adventure
Where the Bears Own the River
Late July in Katmai is raw, kinetic, and unforgettable. As salmon surge upstream, coastal brown bears gather in the creeks, charging through water, clashing over fish, and feeding with an intensity that defines Alaska at its wildest. This small-group expedition is timed precisely for peak fishing action, giving you front-row access to one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on earth.
With just four photographers, extended golden hours, and in-field guidance throughout, you’ll have the space and support to capture both explosive action and powerful environmental portraits in one of the most remote landscapes in North America.

Itinerary
Venture deep into the wild heart of Katmai National Park on a bear photography expedition found nowhere else on earth. Fall asleep beneath vast Alaskan skies and wake to the raw sounds of wilderness all around you.
Day 1 | Arrive in Homer, Alaska
Arrive in Homer, Alaska and settle into our centrally located group hotel, just steps from local coffee shops, restaurants, and charming shops. After checking into your comfortable room, take time to unwind before meeting your fellow travelers over a delicious welcome dinner. We’ll review the journey ahead, share important details, and set the stage for the unforgettable adventures that await.
Day 2 | To Bear Camp!
Today the real adventure begins. After checking out of the hotel, we’ll take to the skies, weather and tides permitting on a breathtaking float plane flight to our remote wilderness camp. Upon arrival, you’ll meet our expert bear guides, take part in a comprehensive safety briefing, and enjoy a guided tour of camp. If time allows, we’ll gear up and head straight into the field, beginning our search for bears and other incredible wildlife in this extraordinary landscape.
Upon arrival, we’ll settle into our beautiful accommodations and enjoy a relaxed lunch before heading out on our first game drive, officially beginning our immersive safari experience.
Day 3-5 | Bear Days
Each morning begins with a hearty breakfast in camp before we pack our day bags with lunch and snacks and head out into the wild in search of bears and other remarkable wildlife. In the Alaskan wilderness, flexibility is essential. Our daily plans are guided by animal activity, weather, and conditions on the ground. We’ll shape each day around nature’s rhythms, adjusting our schedule to take full advantage of the best light and the most compelling photographic opportunities Alaska has to offer.
Each day remains intentionally flexible, shaped by animal movement, light, and the ever changing conditions of the wilderness. During the warmer hours, enjoy the quiet luxury of camp life; resting, editing images, or savoring a cool drink as wildlife drifts past before heading back out as the light softens and the bush comes alive once more.
Day 6 | Time to Say Goodbye
As with all great adventures, our time in the wilderness eventually draws to a close. Today we’ll break camp and prepare for departure, with timing dictated by tides and weather. Alaska is famously unpredictable, and conditions can change quickly, so flexibility is essential. We’ll be ready to move as soon as the float plane can safely reach us. Once back in Homer, we strongly recommend having an extra night reserved, just in case weather delays our return. For this reason, it’s best to schedule your flight home for the following day.

" this safari exceeded all expectations"
★★★★★
I recently returned from an unforgettable photographic safari to South Africa, led by Jennifer Hadley. From start to finish, it was a dream come true for photography enthusiasts. The rhythm of each day seemed a perfect balance of adventure (tracking wildlife), photography, learning, conservation, and even a bit of relaxation. Jennifer was truly exceptional. Energetic, fun and incredibly knowledgeable, she brought a contagious enthusiasm to every game drive. What really stood out was how helpful she was with photography, providing tips, techniques and hands-on assistance to ensure everyone got the best shots possible. Overall, this safari exceeded all expectations. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique photographic experience in the wild!

" I would definitely recommend Jennifer Hadley's tours"
★★★★★
Jennifer offered a phenomenal 10 days of photographic experiences and provided a great driver/guide - Noelle (Tchagra Trails)! Together they gave us a phenomenal safari in Timbavati and Madikwe in South Africa! The rooms were more than comfortable, the food was awesome and each day was full of magnificent wildlife and fun. I would definitely recommend Jennifer Hadley's tours to South Africa and any other destination she offers as each are well planned for the optimum experience of those participating.
